Vintage Knitted Sweater and Hat Child Size

I’d like to say for certain that this set was hand knitted, but I can’t be sure. The sweater and knit cap have no labels, and there is just something about the set that looks lovingly made. The color is a deep red or burgundy, with matching buttons down the front of the cardigan. The sweater has an unusual stand up collar that’s so stylish for a boy or a girl. The knit cap has a pompon and neither piece looks as if it ever dressed a child. The cap measures 8” across at the ribbed edge and from that edge to the pompon is 6-1/4”. The sweater has dolman sleeves but measures about 10” from shoulder to shoulder and is 16” from the back of the neck to front hem. This set came to me in a box of children’s clothing from the 1940’s to early 1950’s, but I cannot give a guess as to its vintage. It’s a beautiful set, in vintage color and style, yet trendy and stylish still today. In excellent condition, it’s a nice piece. Please see photos and ask any questions you may have before you bid.
