Missouri Pacific Railroad MOPACRR Rustic Lamp Lantern Starter Lighter EAGLE

Description

This is a vintage Missouri Pacific Railroad lamp lighter. It is embossed MOPACRR on its front badge. It is embossed EAGLE on the bottom. It is 17 1/2" long and 5 1/4" tall. It is coated in rust. The handle has been bent which caused severe damage. It has a hole in the back side. The wick is present in the spout and can also be seen in the can by looking through the hole in the back side.
I have seen these listed as lanterns but that does not seem practical because it has no provision to protect the flame from breezes. It seems more likely to be a lamp lighter that the conductor would use to light the many lamps on a passenger train. Or for some similar purpose where the flame would be used over and over.
