From a local estate collection. Please see our other Chinese auctions this week.Antique Chinese export armorial porcelain large coffee cup and saucer. These bear the arms of Scottish noble family Sandilands, with the motto “SPERO-MELIORA” which translates from Latin to “hope for better things”. This service is generally dated to the Jiaqing period, circa 1810. Finely decorated borders showing figures, birds, sheep, goldfish, etc, against landscape backgrounds.

Cup has one extremely tiny chip at the rim, tiny frit on footrim. Dish has faint hairlines and small chip inside footrim. Cup approximately 4 1/8” at widest by 2 5/8” tall. Saucer approximately 6 1/8” at widest, sits about 1 1/4” high. Please zoom in and study all photos. Display stand not included.
