    You are looking at a vintage railroad tool. I was told that this tool moved the cars together. You would attach the chain to each car and then use a pipe or rod to tighten the chain which pulled the cars together. The tapered piece you put the pipe into is 2 7/8” in diameter. The piece was patented in feb 1898. It works as it should. The pictures should show details and condition. K/RR729
