Composition: Stainless Steel
Note: Mule with reverse for the 5 centavos coin on the 50 centavos planchet (KM# 683).
Mintage: 40,000.
In 2012 a batch of 40,000 coins of 50 cents came out of the Brazilian Mint with a manufacturing defect:
the reverse of 5 cents instead of 50 cents (mule coin).
The fact was officially admitted
by the Central Bank
and most coins with the error were recalled and melted.
However, some of these coins came into circulation or were recovered by
collectors.
