    Description

    Antique Balenese Buddhist calendar, called Palelitangan, a painting on thick linen, depicting the different festivals of teh year at which the waters gathered at the monastery a top of the Island was released to the lower regions to irrigate the rice fields. By this system the Balenese could harvest rice 4 times a year! This calendar is 64"x 50" and in excellent condition,  dating from around 1900 or before.
    I am not sure why most of the pictures came out with such a "tan" coloring - the true coloring is the second to the last picture, which is with whitish background.
