    Description

Imagine you’re on a first date. She’s looking groovy, white go-go-boots and a paisley miniskirt. The Boones Farm Apple Wine is kicking in. You can tell she’s into you, but how to seal the deal?
From underneath your denim jacket, out you pull your new autoharp. Suddenly, it’s 1965 again, and you’re John Sebastian.
“Do You Believe in Magic?” you ask with a sly grin. She nods approvingly. You begin to tell her about the autoharp being an American instrument with obvious eastern European roots.
Her eyes glaze, you think it’s the wine. Stupidly, you continue, “The transformation from zither-like instrument to widespread American country/folk phenomenon owes it's popularity to Oscar Schmidt musical instrument manufacturing company.” You raise your autoharp closer . . closer. . .too close. The Oscar Schmidt logo is illegible. She begins to shiver.
“Cold, babe?” You place your denim jacket over her legs, which have fallen asleep, making escape difficult. You strum, confidently, the resonating sound fills her with a mixture of amusement and fear.
You begin to play the only song you know, “Oh Susanna”. Unfortunately, her name is Donna.
Crooning “I come from A – la – bama. . .” she quickly begins to rub the feeling back into her legs. Donna crawls for the door as you close your dreamy eyes and continue. . .“And I’m goin’ to Loos – I – an – a “ . . .when you hear the door slam.
