    Description

    This early Plains Indian painted hide hand drum was collected by Hayter Reed (1849-1936), Deputy Superintendent of General Indian Affairs. It is constructed with a bentwood frame and covered with hide. It is painted in blue, yellow, and orange. A variety of reptilian figures are painted on the center of the drum face.  Condition issue include edge tears in the hide, warping, and some strapping breaks, as shown in the photos.
